Titania and Oberon Pencil drawing - A3 sized (42x29.7 cms). Derwent Graphic pencils on Winsor & Newton Bristol Board, & a tissue and erasers! Link to the work in progress
[link] The finished drawing took six weeks to complete and is in excess of 100 hours work.
I've deemed this finished although the little fairies could have used a bit more refining, and I see I've made a bit of a bo-boo and forgot to continue Oberon's legs (I may go back to it at a later date and make the lower part of the fallen tree larger to conceal where his feet ought to be). I was inspired by a beautiful photo by ~Queen-Kitty and I really appreciate her giving me permission to use it as a reference for Titania. I was advised to make Titania's dress look less bridal, so I've taken liberties and relied on my imagination a lot. In my drawing, Titania and Oberon have had a bit of a quarrel and they're giving each other the cold shoulder treatment (one little fairy is stirring up trouble further by pointing a finger at Oberon and ticking him off). The other fairies are getting up to mischief playing with a veiled part of Titania's dress. Who knows? This may be the disagreement which led up to Oberon's action in turning Bottom into a donkey and then causing Titania to become enamoured with him (boo-hiss!)
The reference for Oberon is by ~Sifra-stock[link] In the most valuable feedback recieved on the earlier work in progress, I was advised I'd made him too girly and that I needed to beef him up to make him more masculine (a fault with the drawing and not the man in the photo). I've done this, so it's not a true likeness.
With the little fairies, I sketched them out quite loosely and have not relied on the photos to finish them (in most cases). Some might appear rather different to their sources. Thank you to the following stock artists: *intergalacticstock[link][link] `mjranum-stock[link] ~Dove-Stock[link] (the pointing fairy is drawn from my imagination).
The background was drawn from my imagination, apart from a section of one tree, which I took inspiration from, rather than copying it [link]
I think that's everything! It's 1.00am and I haven't eaten since breakfast time, so I must disappear to eat. I'll note all the stock artist ASAP after that
Edit - just seen the full view. I think I reduced the brightness a bit too much! The pencil marks are not as pronounced as they seem. The drawing is a bit more smoother and greyer in real life. Honest
