Rime of the Ancient Mariner by CaroleHumphreys Rime of the Ancient Mariner by CaroleHumphreys
Inspired by Coleridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and also as a response to a challenge set by *dashinvaine
A2 sized pencil drawing. I've given it a sepia tint in photoshop.

I've used a reference pic for the pale maiden supplied by a wonderful stock artist :iconrebecca-parker-stock:
Thank you Rebecca for allowing me to use it.

EDIT - I've uploaded an updated image. I'd made some errors in the original and have tried to address this. Also, I've tried to rework the mist a bit.

You can view a progression of the work in my scraps, and it also gives you an idea of how the pencil drawing actually looks. [link]

I agree! I think your piece really captures the spirit of the poem and the era in which it was written. It looks like its a detail directly from the manuscript. I love your vision as an artist as well, I took a look through your gallery, and found everything you have is as stunning as this piece. Keep up the good work, thanks for adding a little beauty to the world.

At first I thought you named the picture after the classic IRON MAIDEN's song..lol..

What a fantastic pencil work, captivating scene & beautiful details.

The song is based on the poem ;)
"Death and she Life-in-Death, they throw their dice on the crew..."
Stunning work!

well this is a perfect represnetaion of the scene, it works best for my image of the peom, i have to say though i imagined the woman a bt wilder. either a bit more ragged, or else a bit more like a wild western gambling woman type, but that's only cause she rolls dice.

Wow, what a beautifully drawn picture!! I can almost see the face of the girl in color even though its black and white. It also reminds me on the old saying that it brings back luck to the sailors if a woman is on board.
