Johnny Depp crayon portrait by CaroleHumphreys Johnny Depp crayon portrait by CaroleHumphreys
A3 sized wax crayon portrait of Johnny Depp. Produced for a crayon challenge conjured up by :iconpbird12: (thanks for getting me to cover my scanner in wax flakes).

It was a challenge and I reached a point in this when it was too painful to go on, so I rushed the finish. It really is a tough medium to work in. All the same, I've had some fun along the way and tried to be inventive ... including doing rubbings of all the coins I had in my purse. I also tried doing crayon rubbings of the lace on a pair of knickers (not the ones I was wearing) but that didn't come out as clearly as the coins. Well, if women can chuck knickers at Tom Jones, I thought I'd employ my undies somehow for this hearthrob. I also used a pair of scissors to scratch this up a bit, and of course, a box of 24 crayola crayons. Crayons are best left in the hands of kiddies, not grown ups.
For reference, I used an image from the Unofficial Calendar of Johhny Depp from 2008, published by Street Hassle publishing and the Daily Mirror - they don't credit the photographer. I also searched for the image online, but couldn't find it anywhere.
I think that's it, apart from how it took around 20 - 24 hours to complete. Perhaps I'll try this portrait again one day, but in pencil.

Well you have certainly captured his look, never used crayons myself and if you struggled with them i think i'll leave them well alone! Good Job though! :)

Thank you. I advise nobody touch the crayons, leave them to the children. They really were tricky to use. :)

Hehe considering the rotten medium and how I made him look miserable, it's not my finest work, but a good experiment :)

Well ..... it's hard to believe ...... but I'm struggling for words :faint: This is so so good! I love that you got all the different textures in and how you got that skin tone I will never know. I am beyond impressed, I truly am and thank you so much for taking part :tighthug:

Don't run too far the next time I do one, I'll get tired hunting for you! :giggle:

Thanks Paula. I can see a lot wrong with it compared to the photo (lucky for me, the original photo does not seem to be online). My son tends to buy me a Johnny Depp calendar each Christmas, so I guess it wasn't such a hardship to ogle at that dreamboat, despite my protests. :D

Actually, the skintone was one of the more easier parts as I just lightly blended the oranges, brown, red and a bit of yellow and relied on the white of the page to show through a bit, and added a little black later on the shadowy parts. Thanks for the cruel, but fun challenge

Thank you. I tried getting an imprint of the lace by placing them under the drawing and then rubbing over the paper with a crayon, but much of that lacy detail is lost now. :)

Oh ferk off, this really is amazing and the skin tones unreal. :faint: You must be off your rocker to have put so much work into satisfying that spotty scotties kinky sadistic fetishes.

If this doesn't with then I'm a monkey's uncle..:iconimmaturemonkeyplz:

Haha thanks. I originally intended to do this at work so I could melt it in the laminator, but every night was busy. It was a very cruel challenge, and I know to hide next time if Paula comes up with any more evil challenges like this one.
