A3 sized wax crayon portrait of Johnny Depp. Produced for a crayon challenge conjured up by
(thanks for getting me to cover my scanner in wax flakes).
It was a challenge and I reached a point in this when it was too painful to go on, so I rushed the finish. It really is a tough medium to work in. All the same, I've had some fun along the way and tried to be inventive ... including doing rubbings of all the coins I had in my purse. I also tried doing crayon rubbings of the lace on a pair of knickers (not the ones I was wearing) but that didn't come out as clearly as the coins. Well, if women can chuck knickers at Tom Jones, I thought I'd employ my undies somehow for this hearthrob. I also used a pair of scissors to scratch this up a bit, and of course, a box of 24 crayola crayons. Crayons are best left in the hands of kiddies, not grown ups.
For reference, I used an image from the Unofficial Calendar of Johhny Depp from 2008, published by Street Hassle publishing and the Daily Mirror - they don't credit the photographer. I also searched for the image online, but couldn't find it anywhere.
I think that's it, apart from how it took around 20 - 24 hours to complete. Perhaps I'll try this portrait again one day, but in pencil.
