*NOTE - I've moved this to scraps in accordance with DA's rules.
I thought I'd post my latest progress on this one. I've still got a lot of work to do on this. It's funny how I find myself favouring working on the left side of paintings and neglect the right side - I don't know if that's a new quirk in me. Lighting-wise, there will be more shadow added to the figure at a later stage. I'm also thinking of giving her a blue dress rather than continuing with what she was wearing in the ref pic, I think that colour might be more harmonious with the setting. I'm enjoying doing the detail in the background ... even if I might seem mad to want to work it to that level.

I think I remember those trees from your stock account. The roots are doing excellent job here, framing the girl. Can't wait to see the painting finished - the details already look marvelous.
I saw the WIPs in my inbox ( yep, I'm watching your scraps too - always did), but didn't have time for comments as I'm in a whirlwind now. I'm preparing for Thanksgiving (tomorrow) and for flight to see my Mom (on Monday). She is in hospital, presumably stable after mild stroke and heart complication afterwards, but she is 85 and isn't getting any younger. I was hoping I could fly over in January, for 2 weeks or more, when she was doing better after that stroke, but then the heart added problems and so I'm going next week, for one week only (plus 2 days of traveling back and forth).
So your newest works will wait for my return. And maybe there will be some finished too - hopefully.
So sorry to hear about your Mom's health. Have a safe journey And as for preparing for Thanksgiving, you really are a supermum; have a good one. Take your time commenting on my stuff, you've more important things to deal with right now
The Thanksgiving was yummy, and peaceful - thankfully. Thanks, C. Mom is doing better, starting rehabilitation, and with a chance to leave hospital before I have to return home. I'm starting to run in circles from all those preparations. Plus thinking of so many hours in the air makes me dizzy already. I prefer to have my feet on stable ground.
I didn't realize this was a WIP! It looks finished to me, but I see what you might like to add to it as you work on it. This is a really beautiful scene Carole. I love this piece. I hope you finish it soon. The shading in her dress and the colors and shading on the tree behind me are a couple of my favorite elements so far. Great job Carole.
Thank you, Jana. I think this one is going to take an age to do. I've this dumb desire to want to capture each blade of grass Thanks for adding it to your favs
(The root-work is really cool btw.)
